The luggage capacity of a large car is now available to Holden Barina buyers

Holden has reintroduced a sedan to the Barina range. Previously available in the Daewoo Kalos-based TK series that ran from 2005 to 2011, the sedan has been missing in action from the current TM series — until now.

The new four-door boasts a luggage capacity of 502 litres, which is just four litres less than the boot space of Honda's City sedan and is actually better than that of Holden's own Commodore. Along with the added carrying capacity, the new Barina variant retains the hatch's five-star ANCAP rating and comprehensive equipment. Holden has priced the sedan just $500 higher than the equivalent hatch variants, possibly indicating the company expects the sedan to appeal to a broader cross-section of light segment buyers than the hatch.

"The Barina hatch has been a great success for Holden since it launched in November last year, recording very strong sales,” said Holden’s Executive Director for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, John Elsworth in a press release today.

“Now the addition of the sedan variant adds a new dimension of practicality and flexibility to the Barina range. Offering 502 litres of boot space, while maintaining the excellent driving characteristics, style and standard equipment of the hatch, I'm sure the sedan will continue to build on the Barina's popularity."

Barina Hatch and Sedan Recommended Retail Pricing
Hatch with five-speed manual - $15,990
Hatch with six-speed automatic - $17,990
Sedan with five-speed manual - $16,490
Sedan with six-speed automatic - $18,490
