Audi is turning up the performance tempo with a formidable new TT RS, one that is faster to 100km/h than the Audi R8

If the 250kW/450Nm Audi TT RS didn't deliver the kind of brutal power you were searching for, the German company will release an even more potent TT at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show - the TT-RS Plus.

The cleverly named Audi TT RS Plus hikes power and torque by 15 metric units apiece, taking peak power to 265kW and torque to 465Nm. The bottom line of this increase is a significant two tenths of a second reduction in the 0-100km/h sprint time, from 4.3 to 4.1 seconds.

To compare, the more expensive V8-powered Audi R8 reaches 100km/h in 4.6 seconds.

If the expected $155k price tag of the Audi TT RS Plus sounds a bit steep, consider that the five-cylinder turbocharged car is frugal, sipping fuel at a rate of just 8.5L/100km.

Audi Australia Corporate Communications Executive, Shaun Cleary, said the new high output TT RS Plus is on the radar, but as with most just-released new models it is being evaluated for the local market at present and that no decision has been made on its importation at this stage.

Audi's new TT RS Plus will be offered in both tin top (Coupe) and drop top (Roadster) body styles and is distinguishable from the 'regular' TT RS by a motorsport motif, most obvious in the form of black 19-inch alloy wheels with red edging.

Carbon fibre wing mirrors and a polished anthracite front grille are also new to the TT RS Plus, as are carbon fibre engine covers.

Could the hi-po coupe portend a new twist on the RS theme from Audi? Watch out for the Audi RS 5 Plus...
