Audi Australia has confirmed to motoring.com.au that its A4 allroad will be coming to Australia. And while the powers at be are tight-lipped on specification and pricing, the word is that the adventurous niche model will grace local showrooms from Q3, 2012.
Combining the prestige feel of an A4 estate with high-riding versatility, the A4 allroad follows in the wheeltracks of the successful A6 allroad . The formula sees a turbodiesel A4 quattro raised 37mm, fitted with an offroad stability control system and kitted out with durable plastic wheel arch trims and bumpers.
The tougher presence, Audi Australia general manager of corporate communications Anna Burgdorf says, is the prime reason A6 allroad customers are drawn to the car, and one she expects will attract a similar number of A4 allroad devotees.
“The A6 allroad has a loyal following here in Australia, and we believe there will be an equally loyal following of A4 allroad buyers when we release it in Q3 [2012],” Burgdorf explained.
“At this stage we have no estimates on price, or specification, but we’ll certainly have some news on that front closer to the launch.”
A4 allroad also feature stainless steel underbody guards, a utilitarian cargo area packed with nets and dividers as well as lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels and a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine with auto stop/start.
The regular entry-level A4 2.0TDI Avant sells locally for around $60,000. We’d suggest the allroad will demand at least a $5000 premium though some of the extra cost may be offset via equipment boosts.
