New entry-level Kia Optima Si

Kia brings even more value to its well-equipped Optima line-up with an all-new $30,490 variant
discount new cars  » Get the best price on a new Kia Kia Australia has announced a new entry-level model to its mid-sized Optima sedan, as well as new pricing across the remainder of the MY12 Optima range.

Starting at $30,490 the all-new Optima Si is offered with the same (148kW/250Nm) 2.4-litre GDI engine and six-speed paddle shift-style automatic transmission found in its more highly specified Platinum sibling (pictured). At this stage, Kia does not offer a mid-spec SLi variant as found elsewhere in the line-up.

The new Kia Optima Si features smaller front brakes (11.8-inches versus 12.6) and 17-inch alloy wheels (18-inches on Platinum variants) but is otherwise mechanically identical.

Safety equipment is also unchanged, Optima Si sharing the same five-star ANCAP rating as the dearer $36,990 Optima Platinum.

Optima Si omits LED running lamps, LED rear foglamps, and push-button starter however. Of course, the electrically-adjustable ventilated and heated leather seats found in the top shelf model are replaced by cloth trimmed mechanically-adjustable pews while woodgrain trim highlights are also missing.

Externally, in additional to the smaller diameter alloy wheels (with full-size matching spare), Optima Si is distinguished by a chrome-finish Schreyer grille (in lieu of the black-chrome grille found on the Platinum model), halogen-type headlamps and candescent rear lamps. The sports bumpers, rear lip spoiler and panoramic sunroof found on the Platinum model are also excluded.

Feature wise, Optima Si does away with the TFT colour screen found in the centre stack of the Platinum variant, alloy scuff panels and pedals and user selectable menu options (auto door lock/unlock, headlamp timer, easy access, etc.). The cabin’s fancy LED “mood lights” and uprated audio system are also left out, Optima Si receiving instead a single-CD tuner with six speakers, audio input jacks and Bluetooth telephony and audio streaming.

The MY12 Kia Optima range is in showrooms this January.
