Special edition gives Commodore an American makeover
discount new cars  » Get the best price on a new Holden

As exclusively revealed by the Carsales Network in August, Holden has created a limited edition Commodore using parts left over from the Pontiac G8 export program. Known as the SS V-Series Special Edition the new cars use the exterior style of the G8 including front grille, bumper and bonnet.

Unlike the G8 program though, Holden is offering the distinctive look on the Sportwagon and Ute as well as sedan.

Just as we said back in our original story the SS V-Series specials will go on sale in November and be available in only three colours: Phantom Black, Red Hot and Voodoo Blue.

Prices are as we predicted too with the Ute starting at $47,490, sedan from $55,290 and the Sportwagon $57,290 (manufacturer recommended price, not including government and dealer charges). Opting for the six-speed automatic gearbox adds $2000 on each model.

But the Pontiac-version isn't the only limited run Commodore Holden is offering. The entry-level Omega sedan and Sportwagon are also given an injection of new parts to create the Special Edition International.

The International adds a Berlina front grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seats and steering wheel, Bluetooth compatibility, chrome decklid eyebrow moulding (sedan only), rear park assist and the obligatory International badging.

Both the sedan and Sportwagon International models come standard with the new 3.0-litre SIDI V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission. The sedan is also available with the 3.6-litre LPG V6 and four-speed auto.

Also available in November the International will be priced from $35,990 for the sedan and $37,990 for the Sportwagon.

"These vehicles cater to motorists at both ends of the Commodore-buying spectrum -- those looking for great value and those looking for striking performance looks," said Holden marketing director, Philip Brook.

"SS V-Series has always been about sports performance and ultimate road presence. Now we've dialled it up even further.

"The International edition is even better value when you combine extra features with the advanced 3.0-litre direct injection engine and six-speed automatic transmission."
