Hyundai will introduce its new i30 wagon to the public today, at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. Small wagons are not big sellers in the local market, but Hyundai has stretched the wheelbase of the i30 wagon to position it just far enough north from the successful i30 five-door hatch to stand on its own.
The longer wheelbase and overall greater length lends the i30 wagon significantly more cargo space. A pair of sturdy roof rails complements the wagon's utility.
Expected to be available with the same engine and transmission lineup as the hatch, the wagon will be powered by a choice of 105kW/186Nm two-litre petrol engine coupled to a five-speed manual or four-speed auto transmission, or a five-speed manual-only 85kW/255Nm 1.6-litre turbodiesel.
No details of precisely what variants and levels of trim will be offered (the hatch is available in SX, SLX and SR form), but we do know the Sydney show car will be fitted with ESP stability control, front, front side-impact and curtain airbags, five-spoke 17-inch alloys, new side mirrors with integrated direction indicators and a six-speaker audio with steering wheel controls, as well as USB, AUX and iPod connectivity.
