Jaguar has announced that pricing for the locally delivered XF will start around $105K

The replacement for the Jaguar S-Type is still around three months away from going on sale in Australia, but the importer has already settled on a pricing strategy and model line-up for the new car, the XF.

Although the XF doesn't compete model-for-model with the Lexus GS range, Jaguar's pricing for the XF nonetheless stalks the Lexus GS pricing structure, but any assessment of the XF's value must await Jaguar's confirmation of full specs.

The new range will kick off at the same price ($105,500) for either a 2.7-litre diesel V6 model or a 3.0-litre petrol V6 variant.

From that level, it's a major jump to $130,500 for the naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 grade and then $166,700 for the supercharged 4.2-litre SV8 model.

All four engines will be matched to a six-speed automatic transmission with a sequential-shift facility.

Jaguar has high hopes for the XF range (more here), which has won awards from media outlets in its home country. The new car's styling shifts the mid-range model visual orientation from the retro look of the S-Type to modern styling with some heritage cues.

That styling is being credited with the global upsurge of interest in the Jaguar marque -- and with the company up for sale at the present time, a sales splurge for this new model would help tide the company over during this uncertain period.

Dealers in Australia have already accepted 200 orders from customers. There's a possibility that the entire year's Australian allocation of the XF may be sold before the importer delivers a single car, according to Dorian Lapthorne, General Manager, Jaguar Australia.

"The interest in XF -- before anybody in this country has even driven the car -- has been very satisfying. If things continue in this way, we may have sold out our entire 2008 allocation before a single vehicle is on the road here," he said.

"What is also encouraging is that the XF is attracting a new group of customers to the Jaguar brand: more than three-quarters of those who are contacting us about XF have never owned a Jaguar before."

Jaguar plans for the XF to go on sale locally in June.
