Pre-production Renaults spotted in FNQ

April 2008
words - Ken Gratton
Laguna coupe and the new Megane have been caught in the tropical heat of country Yungaburra

Renault has been testing a Laguna coupe and the new Megane in Australia's far north. The proof lies within the pictures published here.

Taken by Mark Hope, the local pharmacist in Yungaburra, the images clearly show that the Megane hatch (the blue car in the pictures) has lost its trademark tailgate styling in favour of a more conventional look.

Both the Megane and the Laguna were right-hand-drive models and, judging by the salty language used when Mark got busy with his camera, the two blokes accompanying the cars were Aussies.

They had stopped off for a bite to eat at the corner café and took particular care to cover the best bits of the Megane. By the time they returned, Mark had already scored some revealing shots. Their sole recourse was to hurl abuse at the pharmaceutical photographer -- enjoining him to "go sell more drugs" -- before driving off in a meaningful way.

Here's a tip for Renault testers: Pick up the pies and pasties in a current production car, not the pre-production models.
