Mazda has revised and repriced its top-selling 6 range

Mazda has updated its top-selling Mazda6 medium car in the face of growing competition from the likes of Holden, Chrysler, and later this year, Ford.

The favourite of Aussie user-choosers and private buyers alike, the 6 line-up will now comprise Sports, Classic Sports and Diesel variants in a range of body styles. Only the all-wheel drive 190kW Mazda6 MPS continues unchanged.

The new Sports models (pictured) adds new cloth seat trim, black brush centre console and door switch trim panels, high-gloss 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles and a rear spoiler on the sedan and hatch variants.

Like all Mazda6 models, the Sports includes six airbags (dual front, front side for driver and passenger and head protecting curtain airbags) and ABS brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution.

Other standard features include climate control aircon, trip computer, six-stack CD, remote central locking with deadlock function and power windows and mirrors.

The Sports models are priced from $29,990 and replace the Classic variants. According to Mazda these previously kicked off at $31,980 (manual sedan).

Next up the equipment ladder, the Classic Sports replaces the Luxury Sports, and adds Dynamic Stability Control, 17-inch alloys, power sunroof, leather seats, BOSE sound system, power-operated driver's seat, body kit, twin exhaust outlets and alloy pedals.

The Classic Sports is priced from $39,990 -- almost a $1000 saving from the previous offer.

The Diesel wagon and hatch models now feature high-gloss 16-inch alloys, black brush centre console and door switch trim, and on the wagon, new cloth interior trim. A rear spoiler has also been added to the leather-trimmed hatch. The Diesel range is priced from $35,205.

Mazda Australia boss, Doug Dickson, said: "The revised Mazda6 range not only focuses on the top-selling variants, the line-up now offers more value and features than ever before."

The revised Mazda6 line-up now comprises:

  • Mazda6 Sports sedan (manual) -- $29,990
  • Mazda6 Sports sedan (auto) -- $31,990
  • Mazda6 Sports hatch (auto) -- $32,990
