Subaru dealers are now taking orders for the new, normally aspirated sedan version of the Impreza.
Following the latest hatchback Impreza that arrived here last year, the new sedan is priced identically to existing five-door equivalents and is available in R, RX and RS models.
The all-wheel-drive sedan gets the same 95mm-longer, 2620mm wheelbase as the hatch version, and sits 35mm higher than the previous sedan to improve interior space. At 165mm longer overall but otherwise dimensionally identical to the hatchback, it gets a 45mm-longer boot to up the cargo capacity while, for the first time in an Impreza sedan, a split-fold rear seat enables improved loading flexibility and capacity.
Impreza sedan shares its two-litre DOHC boxer four-cylinder with the hatchback. It develops 110kW at 6400rpm and 196Nm at 3200rpm, and is available with either a five-speed manual transmission or a SportShift four-speed automatic.
Subaru claims an average fuel consumption figure of 8.9L/100km for the manual and 8.8L/100km for the automatic. The Impreza also runs on regular unleaded fuel.
The five-star ANCAP-rated sedan comes with dual front and front side airbags, curtain airbags, VDC stability control, ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, active front headrests, hill-start assist (manuals only), air-conditioning and four-speaker CD audio.
The RX adds 16-inch alloys, a 10-speaker, six-stack CD sound system, automatic climate control, leather-rim steering wheel with audio controls and leather gearshift.
The RS version adds 17-inch alloys, and a body kit with mesh sports grille, rear spoiler and diffuser. Inside there are sports seats, rear privacy glass and upgraded trim.
The RX will offer an optional sunroof, while RS variants will offer a package comprising leather trim and a sunroof.
Subaru has also revealed that the turbocharged 2.5-litre 169kW/320Nm WRX version of the Impreza sedan is due for local launch in December.
