Kitted-up Commodores, Captivas celebrate Holden's 60th

Holden has released limited edition versions of the Commodore and Captiva for its diamond year.

Billed as a celebration of the 60th anniversary of Australia's own car, the Holden 48-215, the 60th Anniversary Special Edition VE Commodore is kitted out to add a claimed $8000 extra value over the regular base-model Omega.

With an RRP of $33,900 the limited edition Commodore will come in below the entry-level FG Falcon XT's price of $36,490 while adding a swag of gear that is largely decorative but does include significant items such as rear parking sensors, 18-inch alloy wheels and leather seat inserts and Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity.

Among the aesthetic upgrades are a leather-rim steering wheel, decorative silver moulding on the instrument panel, a 60th Anniversary rear badge and a special grille insert.

That's the base Commodore. There's also a SS V 60th Anniversary Special Edition model that is nicely set off by a spectacular set of 20-inch alloy wheels and a high-mount rear spoiler to augment its sports sedan looks.

The special edition SS-V also comes with standard satellite navigation and rear parking sensors to complement to the interior upgrade, which includes special 60th Anniversary floor mats. This is on top of the SS-V's standard repertoire that includes Holden's 270kW 6.0-litre V8, six-speed manual or auto transmission, electronic stability control and traction control.

Visual cues include Special Edition badging at the back, along with chrome-surround exterior door handles.

The VE Commodore 60th Anniversary Special Edition is tagged with a $33,990 RRP (regular Omega $36,790), while the manual version of the VE SS V 60th Anniversary Special Edition is $55,290. The regular SS-V's RRP is $52,490 in manual form, and $54,990 as an auto.

... and Captiva too
The Korean-sourced Captiva SUV also joins the anniversary celebrations with a dressed-up version designed to attract buyers away from a galaxy of competitors from practically every other manufacturer represented in Australia.

The 60th Anniversary Special Edition Captiva is based on the up-spec LX model and adds a combination of worthwhile and merely cosmetic features.

The significant stuff includes a rear-view camera, an electrochromatic self-dimming interior mirror and an in-dash DVD player with a seven-inch driver information display. A storage tray under the front passenger's seat is handy too.

Dress-up gear includes sports 18-inch alloy wheels, silver-painted skid plate, fog light inserts, roof rails and door handles, black-bezel headlights, new taillights and a 60th Anniversary rear badge.

Regular equipment on Captiva LX models includes on-demand 4WD, electronic stability control, traction control, leather seats and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The special edition Captiva is available in both petrol V6 and 2.0-litre turbodiesel models; the former with a $43,990 RRP and the latter tagged at $44,990. Regular LX Captivas are priced at $42,990 and $43,990 respectively.

We have it on good authority that the anniversay celebration models end there, so don't wait on special 60th editions of the Barina, Astra and Epica!
